Since its inception in 1966, the mission of Choice Thru Education has been to assist Chelsea youth and families to break the cycle of poverty through educational achievement. Our goal is to provide the opportunity of a college education to disadvantaged youth, typically the first of their families to even complete secondary education. To achieve this goal, we strive to increase motivation and improve academic performance to prepare students for college. At the same time, we work to match students to appropriate colleges and help them secure the necessary financial assistance so they can attend.

Choice Thru Education has conducted one of the nation's few community-based Upward Bound programs for forty-one years. In addition, Choice Thru Education partners with local colleges and community groups to provide a wide array of services to its students.

Due to its longevity and deep roots in the community, Choice Thru Education has been in a unique position to participate in developing and helping to launch new programs to serve the Chelsea community. Through innovation and change, we strive to keep up with the realities of the 21st century while remaining true to our mission - providing the opportunity of higher education to our neediest students.
